John, an Oklahoma native, grew up on a ranch surrounded by horse and cattlemen. Under the guidance of his father and professional horse trainer, Zane Tibbets, John began training horses at age five.  By the age of 17, he had been recruited to train horses for world NFR champions and contenders. After high school, John attended college on a rodeo scholarship where he trained with and competed against highly respected calf ropers.

Continuing his success, John has trained several world-class performance horses, including racehorses, calf horses, barrel horses and ranch horses.

John now resides in Indiana and provides training seminars and clinics throughout the country. He is dedicated to providing the highest quality training using Applegate Equine Equipment products.
